LATINEANGLICE

Dum haec Romae geruntur, certior fit Caesar Gallos principem consilii sui iterum deposuisse. Qua re cognita, infirmitatem Gallorum veritus, quod sunt in consiliis capiendis mobiles et novis plerumque rebus student, nihil his committendum existimavit.

While these things were going on at Rome, Caesar was informed that the Gauls had once again deposed the head of their council. On learning this, and fearing the instability of the Gauls — for they are fickle in their decisions and generally eager for revolution — he judged that nothing whatever should be entrusted to them.

Galliam subegit, Rubiconem transiit, rem publicam vicit. De se ipso in tertia persona scribit, breviter, celeriter, sine ornatu. Primus omnium instituit ut acta senatus et populi publicarentur. He conquered Gaul, crossed the Rubicon, and defeated the Republic. He writes about himself in the third person — briefly, swiftly, without ornament. He was the first to order that the daily acts of Senate and people be published.
