Favent Panno

They Cheer for a Rag

C. Plinius miratur tot milia virorum tam pueriliter pilam currentem spectare.

Pliny the Younger marvels that so many thousands of grown men watch a ball being chased with such childish passion.

LATINEANGLICE

Nunc favent panno, pannum amant; et si in ipso cursu medioque certamine hic color illuc, ille huc transferatur, studium favorque transibit. Factio Albata Matritensis iterum vicit; nemo meliorem factus est.

It is the colours they cheer for, the colours they love; and if, in the middle of the race, the colours were swapped, their passion and their favour would cross over with them. The Whites of Madrid have won again; no one is the better for it.
